My Newest Baby - The Fujifilm X20

I love my Canon 60D - I really do. The photographs it produces are always perfect and even though it's a DSLR the camera is fairly easy to work with. One negative aspect of my beloved Canon: it's enormous. I always want to take my camera with me but it's just so big and heavy - I mostly leave it at home.

I had a little bit of money left and I wanted to spend it on a good 'pick up and leave' camera: not a DSLR like my Canon but a little, compact camera I'd be able to take with me everywhere I go. And I found it! I ordered the Fujifilm X20, got it a few days ago and I already adore it.

I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a camera I wouldn't like so I spent hours Googling about compact cameras when my eye fell on this pearl. I loved the vintagy look of the camera and I liked how it, even though it's a compact camera, still had a manual and aperture modus. And the best point: it's small. It's not the tiniest camera I could've gone for but it was the best buy for me, personally. It wasn't cheap, it was 400 euros - but I see cameras as an investment rather than an impulsive buy.

The photographs it produces are amazing for a compact camera: it's different than my 60D with for example my 50mm lens on it - obviously - but the quality is extremely good. I took some photographs I could've easily shot with my 60D!

The camera has a viewfinder and a digital LCD screen but I find myself using the viewfinder quite often. You can mount an external flash on but I don't have that one and I don't want to invest money in that: the little flash light in the camera itself works just fine! The camera does have a manual focus option but you don't twist the lens ring to focus: you have to do it with a little dial on the back of the camera. I personally don't like this very much - but it doesn't matter as the automatic focus is pretty accurate.

I didn't want to write a complete review as I don't normally write reviews of gadgets but if anyone would like to see a more detailed overview of this new camera, I'd be glad to write one. I'll post some photograph taken with this pretty thing very soonly - stay tuned. X

  1. When I knew I was going on holiday this autumn I was also looking for a digital camera because I didn't want to take my analogue SLR (it's heavy and I didn't want to carry all the rolls of film). I was actually going to go for the X20 aswell until a friend persuaded me not to buy a camera with a smaller sensor than a standard DSLR. I then bought a second-hand X100 which I really love but I'm sure the X20 is great aswell. I'm not even sure whether the smaller sensor makes any noticeable difference but as I haven't got a DSLR as a secondary camera I was just scared it might.
Have fun with your camera! I can guarantee you it's great to have a camera that will fit in a normal-sized bag! :)

  3. I'm so bad at deciding how to buy cameras. I'm looking for a new lens for my Canon 600D, at the moment I just use the regular kit lens. I'm looking at the Sigma 30m f1.4, or the Canon 50mm f1.8! If you have any knowledge, do let me know!
