I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day: whenever I skip it because I'm either too lazy or too late, I always feel that my stomach is emptier during the day. I'm always on the hunt for new breakfast ideas and I've eaten so many smoothie bowls during the past few weeks - which basically are smoothies too thick to drink through a straw.
Smoothie bowls are easy to make and a refreshing start to your day: you now have a legitimate reason to eat ice cream half an hour after you woke up - and it's good for you as well!
I used frozen mango bits, frozen strawberries and soy yoghurt to make this smoothie bowl. Oh, and I added half a banana to each flavor as well!
I first mixed the mango pieces, banana and soy yoghurt using my blender and poured the mixture into a bowl. I then mixed the frozen strawberries with an equal amount of soy yoghurt and half a banana and poured this mixture into my bowl as well - I then carefully stirred using a spoon to keep the mixed color effect, which made the taste more interesting as well - some bits are very mango-y while others taste more like strawberries. I mixed the yoghurt and mango bits first because I wouldn't have to clean the blender to blend the strawberries (using a dirty blender to mix a yellowish substance would've made it pinkish).
I added the grapes for the photographs but they obviously aren't necessary - you can add anything you like on top but I personally like my smoothie bowl 'clean'.
As you can see this is not really a recipe - I mean, you can use any kind of fruit/yoghurt/toppings you like, but I think this is a quick way of eating a decent breakfast in the morning. I usually blend my smoothie bowl right after I wake up, this way I can consume my breakfast whilst doing my makeup which is a great time saver.
I hope you liked this little article and I wish you all a very happy day! Much love, Sjoukje.
