10 Tips: How To Turn A Bad Day Into A Good One

Everybody struggles with things and has problems - but it's your choice to let yourself drown in that ocean of negativity, or get yourself together and start looking up again. Doing that can be hard and that's why I've composed a little list with tips that'll help you turn your bad day into a good one.

Plan something nice
Having something to look forward to can make your week a whole lot better. Suggestions: a selfmade picnic with friends, a trip to a museum with a loved one or just a day for yourself at the park.

Start reading a good book
Ending your day with some reading instead of overthinking makes you fall asleep faster. Don't be tempted to watch a series/movie in bed: the bright light keeps you awake! A book suggestion: The Girl On The Train - Paula Hawkins.

Empty a whole day on your schedule
Doing just nothing for a day - with nothing I mean watching series, enjoying the sunshine, being on your own - can cure any bad feelings you might be having. Just make yourself a cup of tea, turn up some Netflix and forget about your worries.

Put on a feel-good playlist
Even though listening to happy music when you're feeling down might feel wrong or out of place - just put on one of the happiest playlists you can find on Spotify and you'll feel the negative feelings flow away.

Clean up your room/house
An untidy environment clumps up your head (at least, it feels my head feel clumped up). I hate it when I have a messy room and dirty clothes lying around annoy the hell out of me. Grab your vacuum cleaner, fill up a bucket with water and start cleaning your room/house. I guarantee that you'll feel better after!

Go to bed a bit earlier
That bad mood you've been having might just be the result of a long lack of sleep!

Buy something you've been loving for a long time
I'm not saying materialistic things will solve your problems, but gifting yourself that perfume you've been secretly sniffing in your local drugstore for a while can make you feel a lot better - and even if it's just for a few hours, at least you feel a bit better!

Do something you love
Forgetting about your hobbies is easy: even though you might love taking photographs, dancing, painting - daily life stress can overshadow activities you love.

Even though you can't and nobody wants to hear it!

Everyone has bad days
How positive some people might seem - I can't believe there are persons on this planet who simply never have a bad day (if you know such person, please let him/her teach me!). Having a bad day is okay, and even though that rhymes in a stupid way and it might sounds very cliche (why does that rhyme again!?) - it's true.

I started out feeling so crappy yesterday morning, but I forced myself to go out with friends (I was meant to meet them at 1 but cancelled until 4, to give the introvert in me some time to relax). That made me feel so much better, which was so surprising because I honestly just went to be polite and I just wanted to stay in bed all day. I then cleaned up my whole room (until 1AM, oops) and today's plans consist of almost nothing: me time, declutter time, walking the dog, reading, buying a basket for my bike... just little things that are sure to make me smile!

    This was such great post to read and the tips should definitely help some people out!

  6. I like the one about emptying your schedule. I call it "Taking a left turn". I got that from somebody who when they got off the freeway, they would take a right turn into the city and would start chasing life. Every so often, he would call in sick and make the left turn off the freeway to a world of nature, dive lunch spots..etc and let life come to him.

  9. Aww, I think this is such a great post! Sometimes, I wake up in a bad mood or feel down throughout the morning, I like to take a nap in the afternoon and it always works. I don't know. I think sleep is the best medicine. <3

  12. Sjoukje this is such a great post.

    At the moment I am struggling to find inspiration and happiness because the weather is awful here (UK). My mind says it is summer so it should be sunny and the sky should be blue but my body feels cold as it is rainy and grey and nothing feels like summer (more like autumn). On top of everything I work double shifts so not much of clearing my schedule is possible.

    I DO try though and choose to be happy :) Drinking my favourite tea, listening to playlists, going for night walks; it really is up to me at the end of the day!!!
